His Story
Dr. Marcus Mandrake was born Rodney Marcus Jones, the great-grandson of the Haitian spiritual advisor and healer Papa John Mandrake, in April of 1962. His great grandfather acquired this name because of his spiritual gift for healing and his successful use of the mandrake root to relieve his patients of pain and suffering. At this time many believed that he possessed supernatural powers.
Prior to his birth the family moved to the United States and settled in Montezuma GA. As a child he was in and out of the hospitals frequently because of the lung disease that he was born with. On many occasions it was thought that he would not make it to teenage life.
At the age of 5, his parents divorced and he was raised by his grandmother. However, life with his grandmother was not normal". Like her father she had inherited the gift of the seer which is the ability to see into the future and help people to deal with the ups and downs in their lives and she made her living as what was called a spiritual advisor. Even though young Marcus did not really want to, she would make him help her because she said that he had the gift too. Today "most likely", she would be known as psychic.
Around the age of 8, he became fascinated with the Fairs and Carnivals that would come through town.
While most kids were rushing to get to the candy stands, rides and games at the carnival, Young Marcus spent most of his time watching the side show acts. Such as the fire eater, the real live Mermaid, the rubber man, the sword swallower, and the World famous Conga-the she-ape princess which was a lady who changed into a live Gorilla right before your very eyes. That was his idea of a real fun!
Amazingly enough, he actually got a job working at the Carnival when it came to town. But what was even more amazing is that he talked his grandparents into letting him have a job and they allowed it.
He worked as what they called "a gopher" backstage with the acts, helping with props and costumes and doing little odd jobs on stage. Whenever the performers needed help, they would call him. From this experience, he learned a tremendous amount of things that would help him later in life. Such as Magic, Marketing and most of all Hypnosis.
His first encounter with Hypnotism was when his friend Turbo,"the fire-eater" had a very serious accident on stage. Something went wrong in his act and the fire burned his face and lungs severely. Even after the fire was extinguished he was still screaming in pain. At that moment a strange thing happened. A man got up from the audience, made his way to the stage, said a few words in Turbo's ear, and he stopped screaming and fell asleep.
He was then rushed to a nearby hospital but shortly after that he died. Later on, it was found out that this man that came from the audience was a professional Hypnotist and after that he was never seen again.
When Marcus's grandmother found out about this, he was forbidden to work for the carnivals ever again and the only job he was allowed to have was helping her with the spiritual business and going to school.
Marcus's second encounter with Hypnotism happened 5 years later, when a stage Hypnotist preformed at his grade school. Even though this experience brought back all those painful memories of what happened to Turbo, Marcus was still fascinated with this show.
After the performance he immediately rushed to the school library to read all of the books that he could find on the subject of Hypnosis.
It was around this time that he felt like this was what he was destined to become in life. He also discovered that he could use self Hypnosis to control his lung disease. For the first time in his life he did not have to rely so much on medications to breath. But because of his grandmother's strong religious beliefs he was forbidden to practice Hypnosis in her home.
But his rebellious nature drove him to study and practice in secret any way and everywhere that he could. On several occasions his hypnosis experiments would get him in trouble. One such incident occurred when he put his next door neighbor in a deep Hypnotic trance, balanced her between two chairs and broke a cement block across her body. The experiment was a success and physically she was fine. But that was not how her father saw it when he caught them in the back yard performing this dangerous stunt. They were both grounded and never allowed to play again.
At the age of 16 Marcus joined the US Army and was stationed in Europe. While in Europe and working at Rhine Maine Air Force Base in Frankfurt, Germany he had the pleasure of meeting and studying with World famous Hypnotist Dr. Dante, whom he became good friends with.
After leaving Europe and coming back to the US, he was stationed at Fort Ord in California. It was there that he was involved in a serious car accident and blanked out. The only thing that Marcus could remember was dreaming of walking with his great grandmother and father and they said to him: "Shasta will give you the truth. Shasta will give you the truth"! He woke up only to find out that he had been in coma for almost 30 days.
For years after that incident, Marcus had convinced himself that this dream, was just a result of his grandmother telling him the stories about his great grandfather was a voodoo doctor in Haiti. But he was trying to figure out what "Shasta would give you the truth" meant.
But never the less this experience drove him to use his remaining time in the military to acquire degrees in metaphysics, motivation, psychology and PHD in Religion. After completing his tour in the military, he moved to Los Angeles and acquired a degree in Hypnotherapy from the Hypnosis Motivational Institute.
After graduating, he leased an office in Hollywood and went into business helping people to stop smoking, lose weight, increase confidence and memory. One afternoon a 24 year old song writer walked into his office. She was referred to Marcus's office by her agent because she had a drug and alcohol abuse problem. They quickly found out that the real reason why she had this problem was because this was the only thing that could stop the nightmares and dreams that she was having. These dreams were negatively affecting her song writing. But what was truly amazing was that her birth name was Bethany Marie Varner. As a child her favorite drink was Shasta grape sodas; so her mother nicknamed her Shasta."
AS IN "SHASTA WILL GIVE ME THE TRUTH"
We discovered, through past life regression therapy, that Shasta was a mystical priest in her past life, of a tribe of people that once existed, more then 5 thousand years ago in a place called Leerabik. The priest's name was Demekai. According to these sessions, Demekai was the very first priest, seer, prognosticator, prophet or any other word that may describe a person that can see into the past, present or the future. For more then one year, sessions were done with Shasta, compiling mountains of notes and recordings. He was beginning to understand what the dream meant. It meant that Demekai was giving modern mankind the secrets of life through these sessions with Shasta (Bethany).
But this work came to a halt when Shasta stopped coming to the sessions. After more than a week, Marcus became worried, so he went to her place of residence, only to be told by her landlord, that she had died in her sleep and the cause of death was a brain aneurysm.
Shasta was gone.
Even though Shasta never made it to be the most famous song writer, what came through her was much larger than a song. It was in this mountain of notes and records of the sessions with Shasta that the book of Qua and The Oracle was written.
Today Marcus Jones is using his past experience and training to help others in matters of health, love, relationships. He adopted the name Mandrake as a promise to his grandmother on her death bed in respect to his great grandfather whose purpose in life was to heal the sick.
Although he is not a doctor of physical medicine, he is a healer of the spirit, which earned him the right to bear the name of his fathers father "Mandrake".
